The Royal Observatory
What is the Royal Observatory?
The Royal Observatory in Greenwich is the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian of the World. It is also home to London's only planetarium, the Harrison timekeepers and the UK's largest refracting telescope.
The Peter Harrison Planetarium
The Peter Harrison Planetarium is a 120 seat digital laser planetarium, situated in Greenwich Park, London and
is part of the National Maritime Museum. It opened on May 25, 2007. The planetarium is tilted at the same latitude of Greenwich, and stands parallel to the prime meridian.
What is Latitude and Longitude?
Latitude is used to express how far north or south you are relative to the equator. If you are on the equator, your latitude is zero. If you are near the north pole your latitude is nearly 90 degrees north and if you are near the south pole your latitude is almost 90 degrees south.
On the other hand, longitude shows your location in an east-west direction, relative to the Greenwich meridian. Places to the east of Greenwich have longitude angles up to 180 degrees east and places to the west of Greenwich have angles up to 180 degrees west.
Now, here is a video talking in more detail about latitude and longitude.
