The Greenwich Meridian Line
What is the Meridian line?
Every place on the Earth is measured in terms of its distance east or west from the Meridian line. The line itself divides the eastern and western hemispheres of the Earth just as the Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres.
Since the late 19th century, the Prime Meridian at Greenwich has served as the reference line for GMT. GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time and is based on the current time in Greenwich, England, the basis of the prime meridian. It can now claim to be the center of world time, and was the official starting point for the new Millennium.
The 22nd of October 2009 marked the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Meridian as the Prime Meridian of the World.
Now, I would like to show you a short video about the Greenwich Prime Meridian.
